This vibrant piece captures my experiences in the beachside village of Pangani, Tanzania, along the Indian Ocean. While staying in bamboo huts, our nights were filled with the soothing, powerful roar of the waves just feet away. The sunsets were unforgettable, and the nearly untouched beach stretched on endlessly, offering a sense of tranquility and vastness.
Moved by the beauty and fragility of this environment, I took the opportunity to perform a beach cleanup. Armed with a large bag, I gathered discarded plastics—worn-out ropes, fishing lines, and countless flip-flops that had drifted ashore. It felt meaningful to contribute, even in a small way, to the well-being of this stunning coastal area.
My time in Pangani was also spent exploring the marine life. A snorkeling excursion revealed an underwater world teeming with vibrant fish, which inspired the lively colors and flowing lines in this painting. "In Pangani" reflects the awe I felt in nature's presence and the joy of giving back to the environment.
