This painting makes me smile. It has a joyful, almost whimsical quality, with warm oranges and reds set against deeper burgundies and midnight blue. The colours feel as though they are moving and celebrating, without needing to follow any particular rules.
There is a sense of freedom in the way the shapes and patterns come together. I wasn’t trying to make everything behave itself. I wanted the painting to have some energy and spontaneity—to feel a little like a party that has already begun.
Free Spirit is a reminder that grounding doesn’t always mean quiet. Sometimes being connected to ourselves means allowing a little exuberance in, too.
