Boreal Ghost grew out of the quiet mystery of the forest that surrounds our home. So often, I don’t see the animals themselves, but traces of them: flattened grass where something rested for the night, branches stripped of leaves, trails pressed into the undergrowth. The Canadian boreal forest feels alive with hidden movement and unseen stories.
On rare occasions, I’ve caught glimpses of wildlife or heard the distant yipping of coyotes and the howl of a lone wolf beneath the northern sky. I carried that feeling into this painting through a muted palette of olive greens, soft greys, pink-tinted skies, and small flashes of red—like fleeting signs left behind in the wilderness.
