A collaborative art project by Claire Desjardins and Lisa Kimberly Glickman

Related explores what we inherit and what we choose as we construct our own ideas of home, family and belonging.

About the project

We are sisters-in-law. We are now part of the same family, but we arrived here through very different lives. We share family connections without sharing the same history.

Related begins with that relationship. Through painting, textile work and mixed media, we explore the memories, places and relationships that shape our sense of belonging.

Our work does not have to look alike or tell the same story. We want our practices to enter into conversation while allowing each of us her own voice and giving the exhibition room to evolve.

What makes us feel that we belong?

Two artists. One perspective.

Abstract artist

Claire Desjardins

I work primarily in acrylic and, more recently, oil pigment sticks. Colour, layered surfaces and repeated marks offer ways to explore remembered landscapes and fragments of everyday life. My work returns to questions of home, place and belonging.

Lisa Kimberly Glickman

My practice brings together painting, fibre and mixed media. Figures, domestic spaces and the natural world offer ways to explore memory, care and connection.

A project in development

We are developing Related through new work and conversations about the connections between our practices. This page will grow alongside the project, with glimpses of our process and work as it takes shape.
